Tips for buying and arranging Trader Joe's flowers

Someday I’ll have a backyard overflowing with hydrangeas, roses, lilacs and all the pretty things to cut and bring inside. Unfortunately someday is not here yet (and actually not even really that close) soooo…grocery store flowers it is! Like everyone else I love Trader Joe’s for their flower selection, but I’m pretty particular about what I pick and I definitely have a method for arranging them. So I thought I’d share my tips because there’s nothing better then fresh cut flowers in your home.

Flower Choices:

First up - what I DON’T pick - Chrysanthemums (even in fall), carnations, gerbera daisies, and baby’s breath (they always have the dyed kind that quite honestly baffle me). And this one might surprise you…but I don’t buy the hydrangeas there anymore either. I used to buy them allll the time but I think I can just get more bang for my buck with other flowers, and I find their hydrangeas very finicky. Sometimes they last forever, and sometimes they wilt almost instantly and even the upside down dunk in water trick can’t save them! And lastly, I never purchase the premade bouquets. I just find them not that pretty to be honest.

So what flowers do I buy consistently? ROSES! Most often I buy their spray roses. For $5.99 you get a decent size bunch and I usually buy 3 of them. This amount will fill a small vase. I’ll either buy all of one color or buy shades of one color, as shown here with 3 shades of pink. The blooms open nicely and they last a long time. I also love their garden roses. These are standard size roses but they are an english cottage style, with a more full and layered flower. Both rose options are great for grouping in large bunches, or separating out into smaller vases to place around the house. Definitely my favorites!
